I've started using Linux again. My choice of systems is gentoo. I find it easy enough to keep updated once everything is configured. But installing some things aren't as obvious. I've now installed KDE and it definitely is an improvement for a novice like me.
One problem is that I haven't figured out how to get it to upgrade me from Firefox 1.0.7 to 1.5. I think I have to allow experimental itesm (~86), but that doesn't make sense because Firefox 1.5 has been around long enough. They'll catch up eventually.
I've also been playing with coLinux with a Gentoo image.
I'm a big fan of iTunes. My dad bought and iPod Shuffle and I found that it was a snap to get songs from his cds onto it. Its so easy I will be able to teach my dad what to do.
So what options do Linux users have? Don't answer that. Really. There are a multitude of options. A few other blogs have mentioned Songbird. 0.1 hasn't been released yet, but I'm looking forward to this application. First of all, iTunes requires that I install Quicktime. That's a lot of overhead, especially when it comes to size. Songbird uses XULRunner. Since I have Firefox anyways, that will be good. Once Songbird is on par with iTunes, I'll definitely be considering switching.
