Call Me Al

My MozBlog

Why do people come up with asinine ideas like removing theme support and the javascript console? Sure, it would strip down Phoenix a lot, but then it would lose a lot of its users. I know I would switch back to Mozilla. Being able to customize the way my browser looks is a nicety, a little thing that helps make it stand out. Being able to debug when javascript goes wrong helps keep me a good developer. All these people seem to think they know exactly where to rip code out, but have no proof.

As for sidebars ... I find that they provide an easy way to quickly jump through links (for bookmarks and history). Are they a must-have? Nope. Especially since Phoenix doesn't support Mozilla sidebars. That was truly extendable.

I find Hixie's proposal interesting. Of course I need a redesign anyways. At which point I'll take that into consideration. Right now enlarging the font size too much makes the page header flow poorly. I've been thinking about putting it back into the document flow. I'll also be shoving the button bar off to the right side. I have an alternate style sheet all made up. I've hit writer's block on redesigning cdn.mozdev.org.
