Call Me Al

My MozBlog

If you haven't heard, Firebird 0.6 has been released. The forums have once again lit up with newbies asking the same questions. Of course my reply to most of them is Get TBE! Most of rest are asking where the UI is to toggle this and that. Half of those haven't even looked through the options panel.

Of course there's the group that wants the kitchen sink incorporated into the core. Just because Opera has it, doesn't mean that it has to be in the core of Firebird. I don't use gestures, so why must I have it installed? The only things I think that should be in the core that Firebird lacks are more toolbar buttons. You can get quite a few more with Trivial, but not all of them. I don't want to annoy cdn by asking him to keep adding things.

I have some issues with tabbed browsing. Back when I first tried Opera, it drove me nuts. When I started using Phoenix, I realized how helpful it was. But some of the features such as single-window mode, undo close tab, and show/hide tab bar aren't there. That's why I use TBE. But TBE has many other features I don't use. Let's take a look at what I do use:

  • Always show tabbar (even when there's only one tab)
  • Close a tab by double-clicking it
  • Make a New Tab show my homepage
  • Single Window Mode
  • Duplicate Tab

And that's about it. I have at least eight context menu items disabled. Here is my user.js config file. That's what I use whenever I have a new config of Mozilla or Firebird to tweak. You can also make those changes with about:config, but having the file is faster. Not everything in my user.js is there to override defaults. But should the default change, my browser won't.
