Call Me Al

My MozBlog

Ok, so now my title shows up as Junior Moderator under my MozillaZine avatar. The boards seem so much more active, including a new poster that threatened me after I became a mod. And before I even read what he said, a half dozen people had already jumped on him. I found the situation highly amusing. As long as the silliness is kept on AfterDark, then there is no reason to censor him. In all honesty, there isn't very much need for moderation on the forums. Oh, sure, we get spammed sometimes, but it's not a constant thing. The one thing I would like to do is move threads into the appropriate forums. For example, Thunderbird threads show up in Firebird and vice-versa. I'm up to 4872 posts.

There are a lot of interesting things happening, though not necessarily where I'd like to see them. The password manager and download manager have both gotten overhauls. Experimental builds are available. Web-panels seem to finally be a reality, basically allowing you to have 2 pages side-by-side. For example, I could blog in one pane and the subject in the other. Despite there already being an extension to do so, there will be core functionality to allow the adding of Seamonkey sidebars. I'm glad that will be in there, and it will support XUL of course. I didn't realize Opera had sidebars (it's been several years since I used it). There will hopefully be an API to add them, too.

I've stopped using nightly builds. After early June, things got to be too unstable too often. I recently upgraded to the milestone, then hunted down a copy someone built with DOMI in it. So now I have a 0.6.1 with DOM Inspector. I was trying to help Flii debug her theme/chrome issues, but I made the mistake of starting with the Go button. For some reason, instead of just being a button, Go is a container. It makes no sense to me at all. I filed a but on it and I think it's an easy fix. The real question is whether they'd turn it into a WONTFIX, which is their perogative.

Deskmod went down for a while, so I went through the file djst uses and commented out many themes (mostly by lynchknot). Which reminds me, he's given me some skinVer 1.5 themes to upload. Oh well, I never promised I'd be prompt about it. Too many things to do, not enough time.
